Description
The evolution of gambling is fascinating. Let’s look at how it has changed over the years, starting by referencing a gambling masterpiece.
Almost everyone has seen the 1973 film “The Sting” with the legendary Paul Newman (Gondorff) and Robert Redford (Hooker), where the duo pulls a fast one over Doyle Lonnegan, played by a great Robert Shaw.
Arguably the greatest gambling movie ever made, here is a brief synopses of the film from imdb.com:
“Posing as an obnoxious gambling boss from Chicago, Gondorff gets into a high-stakes poker game with Lonnegan, who is known to cheat. Gondorff cheats better and wins $15,000 from Lonnegan — but Lonnegan can’t pay it right away because his wallet is missing. (One of Gondorff’s associates picked his pocket before the game.) Gondorff sends Hooker to Lonnegan’s room to pick up the money. Hooker, playing Gondorff’s resentful second-in-command, tells Lonnegan he has a great plan to con Gondorff, but he needs “someone respectable” to place the bets. Lonnegan, furious at being out-cheated, bites.”
Gambling historically conjures up such images: illegal operations being played out by big butch men, with cigars and whiskey, in smoke filled rooms, tricked cards in one hand, and their trusty Smith & Wesson in the other hand.
Fortunately, the times have changed since the 1930′s Al Capone crime-ridden Chicago era, when losing a hand could often mean just that (if not more)… literally!
Today, gambling is a highly regulated industry, and the online gambling variant is just as compliant with licensing laws and regulatory requirements. It’s a much safer environment for one’s personal incolumity, with winnings paid out automatically, and far less hazards to one’s health due to second-hand smoke.
As far as the “macho male” bit, that’s no longer the case, either.
Recent statistics show that WOMEN are now some of the biggest players of online gambling sites. And while women do not outnumber men, in terms of how many registered players online gambling sites report, the interesting thing is that women on average tend to spend over 18% more time gambling online, than their male counterparts.
This doesn’t come as a tremendous surprise, when one need only look around a bingo room or a slot machine lobby.
Who do you see? Women. A lot of them. Mostly women, in fact.
So the fair sex clearly enjoys a good bit of gambling. Maybe it’s a female bonding thing, since they seem to get on really well with Lady Luck. Ever notice how women seem to win more than men do? https://www.world-toto.net/ ’re just good like that.
In fact, that’s why WE think the top Vegas high-rollers are always seen with a gorgeous woman at his side. The luck rubs off!
The question is, what do our ladies like playing? Their tastes tend to shy away from table games such as poker and blackjack, which despite changes and evolutions in the trends, are still typically more of a male interest.
In fact, very few female gamblers ever make a name for themselves in gambling such as poker specialist Cathy Hulbert. While Cathy is recognised as possibly the best female gambler alive, most women vie towards:
*Slots Machines
*Baccarat
*Keno
*Bingo
