When you're thinking about replacing your home windows one of the important factors you will need to take into account is the type of window material you will choose for your replacement windows. The main materials include:

Wood Steel Aluminium Fibreglass Vinyl The two most commonly used materials of the above currently include the fibreglass and the vinyl windows, shortly followed by wood replacements. But how do you go about deciding which of these materials is going to be the right one for you? The short way of making your decision is by firstly asking yourself a few simple questions:

How much is your budget, or in other words what's the maximum you're able to afford? How important is the energy efficiency of these windows in your home? Should the windows be maintenance free or is some required maintenance acceptable? How important is the overall look of the windows to you?

The above questions will determine which material type & martin shower door

The first and probably second most popular is the wood window, this window material has been around all in all for an extremely long time and is one which can be seen mostly in classic style homes. The good thing about wood is that it can be given many different colors and effects to match the home in which it's been installed. However, one of the major negatives is the expense, wood is often very costly to make and install, it's for this reason many people will opt for a fibreglass material instead with a good effect.

The two most popular types of materials are the vinyl and fibreglass options, both of these are relatively cheap to make windows from and can be installed quite easily. The benefit of fibreglass over vinyl is that the fibreglass windows can be given a range of different finishes and effects to match the age and look of the home in which they're being installed. This makes them a great alternative for home-owners who want more of a maintenance free window whilst still being able to have the many looks associated with wooden finishes.

The final two types, and by far the least popular, are the steel and aluminium types. Both of these are in slow decline as far as their use in homes is concerned, these are both now seen more within commercial buildings and properties. The main reason for this is generally due to cost and the "curb appearance", in general neither of these window types actually look that nice when installed in the average home.

Overall, your decision has to be dictated initially by what you can afford, remember that vinyl and fibreglass are the two most popular window materials since they are relatively cheap and can be provided in an array of different finishes. Wood is also highly desirable but remember that if you're on a tight budget wood may not be the best option for you.
